How To Tee Off with A Driver Pt. 2

Golf Tee Height

How To Tee off With A Driver
"TEE IT HIGH AND WATCH IT FLY"        Part 1: Why you should be teeing high and famous words by Jack Nicklaus

3 Main Steps for Consistent Drives

1. Posture at set-up position
2. Position of the Ball at Set-up Position
3. Position of the Hands at Set-up position

POSTURE:

The FRONT shoulder should be slightly higher than the BACK shoulder.
A STRAIGHT  spine angle from the  base of the spine to the base of the neck.
Keep your weight even, DON'T  tilt your weight forward on to your toes.

BALL:

Position the ball OPPOSITE the FRONT foot.
No further back 2 to 3 cm,s inside the HEEL.

HANDS:

The position of the HANDS should be opposite the BALL.
Slightly BEHIND the ball, NEVER in front of the ball with the DRIVER.

THE RESULT:

You will hit more FAIRWAYS, hit the ball LONGER and be a very HAPPY chappie.

Following these TIPS will make it easier to make a FULL rotation of the SHOULDERS on the back swing, return
the club head to it's original position and strike the ball slightly on the UPSWING with a SQUARE club face
which will eliminate side SPIN on the ball. Longer, straighter and more powerful drives off the tee - what every golfer wants.

How To Tee Off With A Driver

Teeing off with a driver. How High Is Too High?

Teeing off with a driver

I remember playing in the Australian Open Golf Tournament in the early Eighties with Jack Nicklaus. Before the tournament started he attended a sponsors dinner in which he answered dozens of questions. I remember one question in particular, which he was asked:
"Mr. Nicklaus, why do you tee the ball so high with the driver?"
Nicklaus answered:
"Well son, after years of experience I've learnt that fresh air offers far less resistance than dirt!"
What he was getting at is it is important to hit the driver slightly on the upswing and not on the downswing. This creates a top spin effect on the ball, whereas if you hit on the downswing you get a side spin effect. This means less consistency in hitting fairways from the tee. Remember: if you have a bad slice or hook try to hit on the up and not on the downswing with the driver.

Golf Joke of the Week

Golf Joke of the Week: ALL ALONE

The man was stranded on a desert island for 10 years. One day a beautiful girl swam to shore in a wet-suit.
Man: "Hi! Am I ever happy to see you!"
Woman: "Hi! It seems like you've been here for a long time.. How long has it been since you;ve had a cigarette?"
Man: "It's been 10 years!
With this information, the girl unzips a slot on the arm of her wet-suit and gave the man a cigarette.
Man: "Oh thank you so much!"
Woman: "So tell me how long has it been since you've had a drink?"
Man: "It's been 10 years too.."
The girl unzipped a little zipper on her wet suit and came out with a flask of whiskey. She gave the man a drink.
Man: "Oh, thank you so much. That tastes like liquid gold. I can't believe this is happening to me. You are like a miracle!"
Finally the girl started to unzip the front of her wet suit and asked the man:
"So tell me then, how long has it been since you've played around?"
The man looked at her and said excitedly:
"Oh, my god, don't tell me you've got a set of golf clubs in there too?!?"

Golf with the Wind: Don't Fight It.

What changes do you make to your golf swing when hitting into a strong wind?

Here are some important things to remember.
Golfing in the wind
  • Take at least 1 more club for distance (if its a 7 iron take a 6, 5, or 4 iron).
  • Don't swing harder at the ball. Choosing an extra club should allow you to maintain your normal rhythm and tempo.
  • SHALLOW OUT your swing. The ball will stay lower and under the wind.
  • Try to keep a semi-circle action/shape like this: U rather than this: V
  • A steep sharp V-type action will produce a higher ball flight, thus fighting the wind.
"I can shoot straight, if I don't have to shoot too far" - Scarlett - Gone with the Wind
Don't fight the wind, stay smooth, and keep your rhythm and tempo. Golf with the Wind.

Which Golf Ball Should I Use? A Chopper's Guide

Golf Ball ManufacturersWhat type of ball should I use?

A question I have been asked a lot over the years. A couple of mates of mine suggest taking up Basketball, you will loose less balls.

Most golfers like to use the same ball as the Pro's. Ask yourself, are you as strong and as consistent as the top pro's?

Remember the softer the ball's cover the higher the spin rate .This can also mean more side spin on the ball if you make a bad swing, resulting in less fairways and greens hit. These days there are many golf balls on the market that will spin enough and fly far enough through the air to be effective for the average golfer.

You don't need to risk using a ball that you can't control, leave the high spin rate balls to the pro's.
Ask your local Club Professional whats the best ball is for your game.

The 5 Minute Golf Stretch

Golf Stretches
Improving your range of flexibility, no matter what age you are, can greatly assist your golf improvement. The more flexible you are the more power you can generate in your swing. Do the following stretches every day, before practice, and before a game. Hold each stretch for at least 15 seconds.

Practice each stretch within your limitations. There is nothing wrong with having a few beers to loosen up before a game but include these stretches for an even better result.

These stretches will help your overall wellness, how you feel, and even your health. Regular practice will increase your flexibility, range of motion, and lessen your chance of injury.
